Comprehensive Speech & Language Evaluations
A thorough evaluation is the foundation of effective therapy. It tells us exactly where your child is, what is getting in the way, and how to help, so that every session that follows is purposeful.
At Communication Cottage Therapy in Myrtle Beach, SC, our comprehensive speech and language evaluations give families clear answers and a plan they can trust.
What Our Evaluations Include
Evaluations are booked for 60 minutes and are conducted by a licensed speech-language pathologist. We take the time to understand the whole child, not just a test score.
A parent interview to understand your concerns, priorities, and goals.
A detailed case history and review of relevant medical history.
Structured observations of your child's communication and play.
An oral mechanism exam to assess the structures used for speech.
Both formal, standardized assessment and informal, play-based assessment.
A Play-Based Approach for Young Children
For young children, assessment is highly play-based, because children show us their true abilities when they are engaged and comfortable. Even so, your speech-language pathologist gathers enough information to form a differential diagnosis that guides therapy and shapes an individualized care plan.
Your Report and Care Plan
After the evaluation, we prepare a written report and an individualized care plan, then sit down with your family to review and explain it in plain language. You will understand your child’s strengths, the areas of need, and the recommended path forward.
We accept Medicaid, and we serve families across Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Socastee, Garden City, Murrells Inlet, Conway, Carolina Forest, and Pawleys Island in our clinic, in your home, and in your child’s daycare or school. Re-evaluations are also available to track progress and update goals over time.
