Comprehensive Occupational Therapy Evaluations
Understanding why your child is struggling is the first step toward helping them succeed. A comprehensive occupational therapy evaluation gives your family a clear picture of your child’s strengths and needs, and a roadmap for moving forward.
At Communication Cottage Therapy in Myrtle Beach, SC, our occupational therapy evaluations are thorough, child-friendly, and built around your family’s goals.
What Our Evaluations Include
Evaluations are booked for 60 minutes and are conducted by a licensed occupational therapist. We look at the whole child to understand how they move, sense, and participate in everyday activities.
A parent interview to understand your concerns and priorities.
A detailed case history and review of relevant medical history.
Structured observations of motor, sensory, and functional skills.
Both formal, standardized assessment and informal, play-based assessment.
A Play-Based Approach for Young Children
For young children, the assessment is highly play-based, allowing your child to show their true abilities while staying comfortable and engaged. During the evaluation, your occupational therapist gathers enough information to form a differential diagnosis that guides therapy and shapes an individualized care plan.
Your Report and Care Plan
After the evaluation, we prepare a written report and an individualized care plan, then review them together with your family in plain, supportive language. You will leave understanding your child’s strengths, the areas of need, and the recommended next steps.
We serve families across Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Socastee, Garden City, Murrells Inlet, Conway, Carolina Forest, and Pawleys Island in our clinic, in your home, and in your child’s daycare or school. Re-evaluations are also available to track progress and update goals over time.
